Biographie
Toni Schneiders wurde am
13.05.1920
in Urbar bei
Koblenz geboren.
1936–1939
Fotografenlehre mit Meisterabschluss in
Koblenz
1940–1945
Als Militärfotograf bei der Luftwaffe und als
Kriegsberichterstatter in Frankreich und Italien tätig.
Nach Kriegsgefangenschaft, Rückkehr nach Koblenz
und Arbeit als freischaf fender Fotograf (Reportagen
für die französische Besatzungsmacht).
1947 Beschäftigung in einem Fotoatelier in Meersburg
am Bodensee (Porträts und Passbilder).
1949 Umzug nach Lindau (Auftragsarbeiten in den
Bereichen Kunst-, Architektur-, Industrie-, und
Landschaftsfotografie).
Ab
1949
Gründungsmitglied der Gruppe ›fotoform‹
zusammen mit Peter Keetmann, Siegfried Lauter-
wasser, Wolfgang Reisewitz, Otto Steinert, Ludwig
Windstoßer und gemeinsame Entwicklung der
Stilrichtung ›subjektive Fotografie‹.
In Folge zahlreiche Ausstellungen mit ›fotoform‹ und
Präsentationen auf den ersten Photokinas.
Als Bildjournalist und Werbefotograf für Zeitschriften
und Verlage (z.B. Merian-Verlag) tätig.
1950–1951
Arbeit als Fotograf in Hamburg
1952
Rückkehr nach Lindau, Heirat mit Ingeborg Tho-
mann.
Teilnehmer an der Weltausstellung der Photographie
in Luzern.
Seit
1953
als freischaffender Fotograf tätig (Kunst-,
Architektur-, Landschafts - und Industriefotografie).
1956/1957
Reisen durch Äthiopien, verschiedene euro-
päische Länder und Nordafrika.
Erste Bildbände im Hanns Reich Verlag entstehen
(z.B. Äthiopien, Schweden, Dänemark).
1961/1969
Aufenthalt in Japan und Südostasien;
Aus diesem Bildmaterial entstehen mehrere Aus -
stellungen und Veröf fentlichungen u.a. in
deutschen und internationalen Zeitschriften.
Seit
1970
Aufbau eines umfassenden Farbbildarchives
zur europäischen Kunst- und Kulturgeschichte.
1999 Kulturpreis der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Photo-
graphie (mit Siegfried Lauterwasser und Wolfgang
Reisewitz);
Mitglied der Gesellschaft der Deutschen Lichtbildner,
der Deutschen Gesellschaft für Photographie und
dem Bund Freischaf fender Fotografen.
Lebt und arbeitet in Lindau.

Biography
Toni Schneiders is born on May
13
th,
1920
in Urbar
close to Koblenz.
1936–1939
Apprenticeship in Photography.
Graduates with Master of Photography Certificate
in Koblenz.
1940–1945
Military photographer for the air force.
Reports the war from France and Italy.
Once released as a prisoner of war, return to Kob-
lenz and work as an independent photographer.
Works mainly for the French occupation forces.
1947 Employed by a photo studio in Meersburg
(portraits and passport pictures).
1949 Moves to Lindau (art, architecture, industrial
and landscape commissions).
From
1949
Founding of ›fotoform‹ with Peter
Keetmann, Siegfried Lauterwasser, Wolfgang
Reisewitz, Otto Steinert and Ludwig Windstoßer.
Development of the style of ›subjective photo-
graphy.‹
Numerous exhibitions with ›fotoform‹ and presenta-
tions at the first Photokinas.
Works as an editorial and advertising photogra-
pher for magazines and publishing houses (for
example Merian).
1950–1951
Works as a photographer in Hamburg.
1952
Returns to Lindau.
Marries Ingeborg Thomann.
Exhibits at the World Exhibition of Photography in
Lucerne.
From
1953
Works as an independent photographer
in the realms of art, architecture, landscape and
industry.
1956/1957
Trip across Ethiopia, several European
countries and North Africa. First books published
by the Hanns Reich Verlag (for example Ethiopia,
Sweden, Denmark).
1961/1969
Travels to Japan and Southeast Asia.
Several exhibitions result from this trip and the
images are published in German as well as inter-
national magazines.
Since 1970 Development of an encompassing colour
archive of European Art and Culture.
1999 Cultural Award of the German Society for
Photography (with Siegfried Lauterwasser and
Wolfgang Reisewitz)
Member of the Society of German Photographers,
the German Society for Photography and the
Independent Photographers’ Guild.
Lives and works in Lindau.
