Prof. Hinnerk Wehberg, born in 1936,
studied painting and together with
Gustav Lange in 1969 established an
office for garden and landscape
architecture in Hamburg, now known
as WES & Partner Landschafts-
architekten, managed by Peter Schatz,
Wolfgang Betz, Michael Kaschke and
Henrike Wehberg-Krafft. Since 2007,
Hinnerk Wehberg has acted as a
consultant for the firm. From 1982
to 2002 he lectured at the Institut
für Städtebau und Landschaftsplanung
of the Technical University of Braun-
schweig. The projects of WES &
Partner include, among others, the
International Horticultural Show of
Rostock, the redevelopment of the
Jungfernstieg in Hamburg, the
Alexanderplatz in Berlin, the Altmarkt
in Dresden, the Autostadt in Wolfs-
burg, the EXPO Plaza in Hannover,
the Rijkswaterstaat in Utrecht and the
“Viertel Zwei” in Vienna’s Krieau.
Several of the company’s projects
have been awarded prizes. In 1991,
together with Prof. Gustav Lange,
Hinnerk Wehberg was awarded
the Fritz-Schumacher prize, and in
2005 he was awarded the Friedrich-
Ludwig-von-Sckell-Ehrenring, the
most prestigious German prize for
landscape architecture, by the
Bayerische Akademie der Schönen
Künste.
